About Us

Introduction

Domasi College of Education (DCE), a public secondary school teacher education institution, was established in 1993 to train secondary school teachers to diploma in education to address shortage of secondary school teachers in various subjects. In spite of the achievements of the College producing teachers, the shortage of teachers at secondary school level has been increasing. As such the College has been expanding its modes of programme delivery such that the College offers its programmes through both face to face and open, distance and e-learning modes. Currently the College offers Bachelor’s Degrees in Secondary Teacher Education in the following areas: Language, Science and Social Studies Education. The College delivers its programmes through the Faculties of Science, Humanities, Education and Centre for Distance and Continuing Education with support from Administration Section.

The Vision of the College is: ‘to be a centre of excellence for quality teacher education and continuing professional development’ while the Mission of the College is: ‘to train teachers who shall make positive contribution to national development, instill in them attributes necessary for socio-economic growth, and make education a life-long process’. The College recognises teacher education as a linchpin to socio-economic development and industrial growth and an instrument for the achievement of quality and relevant education. Well-qualified teachers contribute to socio-economic development through human capital development of secondary students. This resonates with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Malawi Agenda 2063, National Education Investment Plan (NESIP 2020-2030), Malawi Implementation Plan (MIP 2020-20230) which advocates for provision of inclusive and equitable quality education for all (United Nations [UN], 2015; MW2063, 2020; NESIP, 2020; MIP; 2020)). Such quality education is instrumental towards knowledge-based economy which is instrumental in this era of the forth industrial revolution.
