STUDENT SUPPORT

DCE realises that coming to College can be stressful. We would therefore like you to join us to learn, relax and enjoy as you achieve your potential during your studies. You may not need any
of the student support services we offer but it will still be helpful to you to simply know that they exist.

Starting a first degree programme can be hectic for a number of reasons. This could be because you are living with complete individual independence for the first time, or you are to cope with a new level of academic rigour. DCE management takes new students through an orientation programme to make the transition from secondary school easier. During the orientation session you will connect with
academic and administrative staff members, register for classes, make friends, learn more about resources available on campus an outside (i.e shopping, accommodation and banking facilities), and discover ways to getinvolved in some activities.

RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS

Realising the importance of publishing for an academic institution, the College established a research and publications unit. The unit is managed by members of the academic staff appointed by the Principal. The unit coordinates the publications of both academic and non-academic books, written by DCE staff and students, as well as other people within the community. It also coordinates the publications of research work conducted by the College

STUDENT ACCOMODATION

With only 804 bed spaces on campus, students’ accommodation is still very limited. The hostels are divided into male and female categories. The rooms on campus are designed for the occupation of two students, and are furnished with reading tables and chairs, lockers, and beds. You only have to bring your belongings. You will have to apply and be subjected to computer random selection, which removes any bias in the selection process. Males and females are selected separately

You will be required to pay a rental fee per month, per occupant, for the twin room as an undergraduate stu dent. The accommodation fees are revised from time to time by management.

STUDENT HEALTH AND SPRITUALITY

College has well qualified medical personnel. By virtue of being a student at DCE, you are allowed access to medical services at the clin ic at a fee of K10, 000.00 per academic year. Psychosocial counselling: Life at College can be stressful, and students have different abilities of coping with such stress. The College also provides counselling services to students who may experience any form of mental stress, either emanating from academic or social life.

Although DCE is a secular institution, it recognizes individual rights for students to hold their own individual religious engagements. Students are allowed to congregate according to their religious affiliation. Additionally, religious groups are free to book classrooms for their meetings

SPORTS

Whether you are an active sports person, or simply interested in physical fitness or just wanting to socialise, DCE has plenty of opportunities for your comfort. DCE football ground is a full size-11-a-side pitch located in a breeze of Domasi River to the east of the main campus. It is a multipurpose pitch since different markings can be made to accommodate a variety of sporting activities. Additionally, the tracks around the pitch are regularly used in competitive athletics. The College has also basketball, netball and volleyball courts. The College has also a gymnasium purposely built to accommodate various games in a covered arena. Such games include, hockey, basketball, netball, volleyball and tennis, among others
