Domasi College of Education Progresses with Construction of ODeL Hub under the SAVE Project

Domasi College of Education is proud to announce significant progress in the implementation of the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Project, a transformative initiative funded by the World Bank. As part of this Project, the College is currently constructing a state-of-the-art Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) Hub, which is expected to be completed by 15th April 2026.

The new ODeL Hub will be a modern two-storey building, adding not only to the academic capacity of the College but also to the overall aesthetics of the campus. Once completed, the facility will house several offices and workspaces for staff who coordinate ODeL programs, provide equipment for digital content creation, among others. This will greatly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching and learning through distance and online platforms. Consequently, this will ensure that Domasi College of Education continues to play a leading role in the advancement of teacher education and capacity building in Malawi.

The ODeL Hub is envisioned as more than just an administrative center; it will stand as a symbol of innovation and resilience in education delivery, ensuring that learning opportunities are flexible, accessible, and inclusive. It reflects Domasi College of Education’s commitment to harnessing modern technologies to improve the quality of education in line with global trends.

We invite students, staff, stakeholders, and the wider community to follow the progress of this exciting Project as it unfolds. Below, are some images of the ODeL Centre construction as of now.

Domasi College of Education Welcomes First Cohort of ODeL Students

Domasi College of Education (DCE) is pleased to announce the official orientation of its newly selected students in Bachelor of Education programmes through Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL). The students were oriented from 25th to 29th August 2025 on learning using learners’ Management System (LMS) and started their classes on 1st September 2025.  Among others, students were oriented on how they can use Moodle as a learning environment while they are away from the College. This marks an important milestone in the College’s journey to expand access to quality teacher education through flexible and technology-supported learning modes.

The selected students reported to campus on 24th August 2025 and successfully completed their orientation on 29th August 2025. The orientation sessions were designed to help students familiarize themselves with the ODeL mode of learning, the use of digital platforms such as Moodle, and the support services available to them throughout their studies.

Speaking during the orientation, the College Principal emphasized the importance of discipline, self-directed learning, and active engagement in online and face-to-face sessions. The students were also encouraged to make the most of the ODeL initiative, which is part of national efforts to broaden access to higher education while maintaining high standards of academic excellence.

The launch of ODeL programs at Domasi College is timely, aligning with Malawi’s vision to integrate technology, inclusivity, and innovation into higher education delivery. The College remains committed to ensuring that both the students and lecturers are fully supported to achieve academic success through this new mode of learning.

Domasi College of Education warmly welcomes this first cohort of ODeL students and wishes them success as they embark on their academic journey.
